THIS WAS GREAT! Ok, I got it - Web 2.0 is all about sharing: ideas, photos, videos, interests, ideas, contacts, etc.. I learned so much, and I want to learn more!!!!!
It didn't happen that I could do this during work time - NO WAY! And I got lost in a confusion about what 23 things to follow - and I got lost in many cyberthings I never knew are there. Anyway, I need to know more about all of this. I am thrilled and scared at the same time - there is a little Orwell's manifestation going on. I feel many librarians have kind of a Polyanna attitude towards Web 2.0. There are so many possibilities for beneficial purposes - no doubt! But so many dangers too. I just am totally new to it and can't really contribute something valuable here yet due to lack of experience. I'll be there shortly though because this has opened doors for me, and I will walk there - Thanks infopeople!

I subscribed to yet another account. And as probably all of you was sent a "Free Hugs for Jesus" video clip in my e-mail! I added a video Board on the left hand side with some YouTube clips for you to watch (if you are a cat person as I am)

I am not doing things in order and I am sloppy in posting (which doesn't really show since I can manipulate the date of my postings ;-)) . Anyway, here comes thing 19, and I created an Avatar as well. I did use meez.com. I finished my infopeople class: Web2.0 with Teens yesterday.

I don't feel too good about that Wiki thing - but at the same time, feel very much drawn to it's possibilities - I have to learn more about it. I posted (something rather imperfect) on the site Im supposed to do so for this assignment, and am confident someone in charge will take it out accordingly due to its nothingness - Thank you!
Online productivity tools:
Regarding on-line productivity tools, you can look at web-based word processing stuff that is similiar to Microsoft Word. Google has a whole bunch, and you can find them on http://docs.google.com/
Don't be frightened of spreadsheets, you can stick to word processing. You might want to checkout http://www.slideshare.net/loenglish/cool-toyz-online-productivity-tools/ ......

Thing 16: Wikis

I love Wikipedia; even though I take it's content with a grain of salt. I have used it more and more though to get a first start on any (however weird) subject. That is a Wiki right? But fundamentally, Wikis I'm not understanding how to participate activily in, except that I can access the page through an editor like Freemind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Download ) and add my comment to the page (...I can guarantee that this technology will be much more user freindly in the next two years, except that it will require your computer to be identified..... so for me, I will not be using much.... I prefer iconclastic anonymity....)

Reading the Cites & Insights, I am confirmed in what I am doing. I will have to work on both ends: keeping up with the information technology and at the same time cater to the needs of our communities. Web2.0 is one thing not to miss!

Oh well - Technorati obviously works with tags - if someone puts something on the Internet either as a post, blog, picture or video and tags it, it can be found instantly with that tagname. I first didn't find anything really, but then going deeper into the mind of people who really are very much interested in(or nuts for)a very specific thing I came up with this:

Things 11, 12 & 13: Libray Thing, Rollyo and del.icio.us

I signed up and put some of my favorite books on there. It lets me see other peoples interests who put on same titles - therefore give me ideas of related titles. Library thing might work for readers' advisory (beyond Novelist, which I consider a very good tool!)
del.icio.us This is great! I can save my favorite websites on an web based server and access them from everywhere! I need something like that to storage my multiple files also (my PC crashed and I lost all my study files - how wonderful would it be you could preserve your work on the web.... of course there is no such space yet - Why?)
Rollyo Rollyo is a Yahoo!-powered search engine which allows users to register accounts and create search engines that only retrieve results from the websites and blogs they want to include in their search results. So that is a kind of filtered search. I don't have any reason for rollyo yet, but I am glad I know about it.

Things 10: Image generators

Thing 10:
I played around with image generators. But nothing of the free online stuff gets you anywhere far really, or they want you to subscribe to something. I discovered there is "free" software on the Internet though (like fotoshop - must be illegal though - Hmmmm, but if you only use it for personal things... oh well, once I have the time, I'll play with that....) What else it's amazing and going way beyond image generators, even though it creates images - a free fractal program, created by a russian couple: http://www.eclectasy.com/Fractal-Explorer/download.htm

Things 7, 8 & 9 : Feeds, Bloglines and Twitter

RSS or web feeds: I found good information on the MS Explorer website and on Wikipedia. I subscribed to a few feeds like BBC news and several library feeds. I just dont have time to read all this now. Feeds are not so unfamiliar it works with customizing my homepage at Yahoo already. With bloglines though, I have free choice of whatever I want to subscribe to.
TWITTER just doesn't work for me! I have no use for it at all and don't see any use for a library environment for it either - Sorry! I can see some teens who need constantly being connected to their peers making use of it - but that's a whole different matter...

Things 5 & 6: Still very much amazed.....

But I am getting more confidence as I go. I had lots of fun with flicker, and playing around with many possibilities – Danger, danger here!!!! I sent a cell phone face shot directly to my flickr account, experimented with a lot of styles and while playing with the retrievr, came across some marvelous photographs from a guy in Brazil, who I borrowed the cat photo from (while giving him credit – I hope I did that right!) and linked to his gallery in my blog. I added an ever-changing Spring Flower motive too. I feel like many of you also: One more account and I choke!
I wonder about copy right and security issues too, and prefer not making my flickr pix public, and uploading pix for creative working on them in third party labs from my desktop rather than from my flickr account, which is linked to my yahoo account….?!
Thing 6: I have looked at the websites and blogrolled them here. SDCL doesn't do too bad but we have lots to improve upon.

Things 3 & 4: 71/2 habits

My weakest habit (not in general but certainly with this challenge) is to begin with the end in mind. I definitely can’t see or estimate where this all will lead me; hopefully it won’t let me go too far astray – grin. BTW: where do I get cool smileys from???? I don’t understand any of the words you are all using dashing swiftly ahead of me (mashup, RSS, etc) until I look it up, and this all takes time. I hope to overcome my confusion by applying what is rather my forte: PLAYING It looks like I need some more toys for this too: a camera, a MP3 player, a mic…. I did explore flickr and had fun playing with it. See my byproducts on this blog!

Hello all! I finally made it to my blog also; and this is my very first blogging experience! I had no problems listening to the blogs or with the multimedia tutorial. I signed my learning contract with the broader goal to become familiar and comfortable with the web2.0, so I can explore it more on my own and apply it later on. I wonder if MySpace is just a conglomerate of blogs???? I hope to learn a lot during the challenge, and also to have some fun!
